Gautam Buddha International Airport is ready for flight.

According to airport sources, work is underway to prepare for the international flight on the day of Buddha Jayanti on May 16 2022. The project chief said that final preparations are being made for the calibration flight to be recognized as an international airport before the operation of the airport.

The ‘Mission Bhairahawa’ campaign has been launched with a 100-day plan to operate the airport. DG Prem Nath Thakur, acting DG Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, said that the calibration flight will be done till March 22, under the campaign which started on January 26. He said that the flight is scheduled to start on May 16 as Buddha Jayanti is an auspicious day.

The calibration flight plan will test the communication equipment connected to the airport, start the calibration flight, check the distance of the aircraft that has flown, check the route used by the aircraft that has been flown, and the lighting attached to the runway during take-off and landing. Similarly, the airline, customs, police, immigration, etc. will be informed about the target date of operation at the airport, ground handling, food catering, cargo agency, etc. will be instructed for necessary preparations and the human resources will be mobilized.
