Suggestions Requested Within 7 Days for AI Policy

Kathmandu- The government has prepared a draft of the ‘National Artificial Intelligence Policy 2081’ for the development and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Nepal. The draft mentions the establishment of an AI Regulatory Council, AI Center, and AI Excellence Center.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology made the draft ‘National Artificial Intelligence Policy 2081’ public through its website and sought suggestions.

The draft mentions that the government has proposed the formation of an ‘AI Regulatory Council’ to work in a manner that is consistent with policy guidelines and international norms for the development and use of AI. It mentions the establishment of a ‘National AI Center’ as the main body related to AI, the establishment of coordination and collaboration related to AI at the provincial and local levels, and the establishment of an ‘AI Excellence Center’ for the study, research, and development of AI.

Strategies 8.2 and 8.3 of the draft state that institutional structures such as councils, centers, and hubs will be created to research, develop, use, regulate, and promote AI, and that the necessary digital infrastructure will be created for the development and use of AI.
