Nepal Bar Elections on Chaitra 23

Kathmandu- The Nepal Bar’s executive committee meeting has decided to hold elections for the new leadership of the Nepal Bar Association, the umbrella organization of legal professionals across the country, on Chaitra 23.

According to President Gopal Krishna Ghimire, the meeting has also formed a 5-member election committee under the chairmanship of senior advocate Ram Krishna Nirala, and the Nepal Bar will elect its 27th executive committee from the upcoming election.

Since the Nepali Congress and organizations close to the CPN-UML have been the main contenders for leadership and as the current government is a joint government of the Congress and the UML, it is expected that the upcoming election of the bar may proceed according to the equation of the alliance.

Recently, in the election competition between the Congress and the organizations close to the UML in the Supreme Court Bar Association, Meghraj Pokharel, a candidate of the Democratic Lawyers Association, an organization close to the Congress, was elected as the president.

Earlier, in the Bar elections held in Chaitra 2078, the panel of current President Gopal Krishna Ghimire from the alliance of Nepali Congress, Maoists and Unified Socialists won.

Elections are held every 3 years to select leadership in the Nepal Bar.
