The election process is set to begin after the CPN (Maoist Center) disagreed on the selection of the Central Committee and office bearers under the eighth general convention.

The Election Committee, while presenting the election schedule, has fixed the time for registration of candidates from 8 pm to 10:30 pm.
The elected committee will elect a 15-member office bearers including the chairperson and a 299-member central committee.

The final list of candidates will be published tomorrow at 11:15 am and voting will be held from 11:30 am to 4 pm, according to a statement issued by the Election Committee.

The eighth general convention of the CPN (Maoist Center) held in Kathmandu has passed the legislation by including suggestions and answers to the questions raised on the draft.

According to the legislation, the party’s central committee will now be elected through 50 percent from open category and 50 per cent fully proportional mixed electoral system, with 35 percent women and 20 per cent youth under 40. The 299-member central committee will have 15 percent nominated members.

The General Convention will select the Central Committee, the Central Committee will select the Politburo, the Standing Committee and the office bearers and the Politburo. The Standing Committee and the office bearers will be selected inclusively.
