The Ministry of Home Affairs has prepared a five-year master plan for drug prevention and control. The National Master Plan for Drug Prevention and Control 2079-084 has been prepared with various strategies related to drug control. The master plan, which was prepared for the first time, was passed at the Home Ministerial meeting held on Tuesday which has been discussed with all the concerned agencies today.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, drug cases are on the rise in Nepal. Its storage, consumption, sale and distribution have also increased. Currently, 21 percent of the inmates in various prisons in Nepal are drug addicts. Similarly, 9 percent of crime cases are due to drug use. The ministry said that the three-tier government, police and community will be partnered to implement the master plan.
