The bailey bridge over the Arun River connecting Makalu village municipality 5-Num and 1-Walung has broken.
The Bailey Bridge connecting Num of Ward No. 5 and Walung of Ward No. 1 of Makalu VDC of Sankhuwasabha broke down yesterday after three trucks carrying more loads than the capacity of the bridge tried to cross at the same time. According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police Lal Dhwaj Subedi, the drivers and co-drivers of the truck are safe.
Puran Yamphu, an executive member of Makalu, said that the bridge was broken while three trucks were carrying more loads than the capacity of the bridge. Yamphu said, “All three trucks on the bridge are stuck in the middle of the river after the middle of the bridge was broken.” The bridge has broken and touched the river while the driver and co-driver have been rescued by the locals.
The 54-meter-long Bailey bridge had a capacity of only 30 tons.
