Citizenship Bill passed by the majority of Parliament

The controversial Citizenship Bill has been passed by a majority in the Parliament session held today.

The bill to amend the Citizenship Act 2063 presented by Home Minister Balkrishna Khand has been passed by the majority of the Parliament meeting today.

Nepali Congress, CPN Maoist Centre, United Socialist Party and Janata Samajwadi Party were in favor of the Citizenship Bill, while CPN UML, Rashtriya Janamorcha and Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party were against saying that foreign women who marry Nepalese men should not be granted citizenship immediately.


However, they did not object to other aspects of the bill to amend the Citizenship Act 2063.
