Kathmandu — Madhesh-centric parties, which have been divided into many parties are once again trying to unite on the issue of constitutional amendment.

With the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML)-led government discussing amending the constitution, Madhesh-centric parties are trying to unite. Currently, there are 28 Madhesh-led MPs in the parliament, while 10 Madhesh-centric political parties are active both inside and outside the parliament. Stating that constitutional amendment is also on the agenda of Madhesh-based parties, Dr. Surendra Jha, General Secretary of the LOSAPA, has said that a committee has been formed among Madhesh-centric parties to formulate a common view. He mentioned that he has found that all parties and leaders feel the need for cooperation, considering the potential danger of losing the achievements made under the constitution.

He also said that after the collaboration between Madhesh-centric parties in the first phase, efforts will be made to expand it further and collaborate with other identity-based indigenous and oppressed Dalit-centric parties and forces.

Independent MP Amresh Kumar Singh was also present at the five-party Madhesh-centric dialogue committee coordinated by Janata Pragatisheel Party Chairman Hridayash Tripathi. The meeting was attended by Surendra Jha and Manish Mishra from Mahant Thakur-led Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Dr. Sharad Singh Yadav from CK Raut-led Janamat Party, Renu Yadav from Ashok Rai-led Janata Samajwadi Party, Keshav Jha and Anil Mahaseth from Rajendra Mahato-led Rastriya Mukti Morcha. Similarly, Chairman Tripathi, leaders Ishwar Dayal Mishra, Sabir Hussain and other leaders from Janata Pragatisheel Party, which coordinated the meeting, participated. No one was present from Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal led by Upendra Yadav. The party has formed a task force consisting of Vice-Chairman Rajkishore Yadav, Ram Kumar Sharma and Manish Suman.
