A meeting between Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-Maoist Central Committee Chairman Prachanda at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar today focused on local elections, MCC and other current political issues. After the ruling coalition failed to reach a consensus on the MCC issue, Prime Minister Deuba warned that the alliance would break up if the alliance did not cooperate in getting MCC passed by the parliament. But even within the alliance, the Socialist and Maoist centers are in favor of not passing the MCC in the status quo. Opposition UML, on the other hand, has demanded the resignation of the Speaker and the condition of breaking the alliance to ratify MCC through parliament.
