Kathmandu, March 24: Ramadan, the holy festival of Muslims, has started from today.

During this time of Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset without consuming food or water. All Muslims fast during Ramadan, except children and the sick.

The holy month of Ramadan is divided into three parts, with the first ten days known as Barakat, followed by Rahmat – ten days of love and care – and the last ten days known as Magfirat.

Those who fast keep their bodies clean and recite the Holy Quran regularly five times a day. The festival is believed to promote self-discipline, sacrifice, and empathy and believes to encourage acts of generosity and obligatory charity.

Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated at the end of Ramadan.
