The government, in coordination with the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), has started repatriating Nepalese stranded in Ukraine.
According to the Nepali embassy in Germany, which is currently recognized in Ukraine, there are about 200 Nepalis in Ukraine. About 40 of them are permanent residents of Ukraine, while most are students studying there.
Nepal’s Ambassador to Germany Ram Kaji Khadka said that necessary coordination was being made with the local NRNA branch and related bodies to repatriate Nepalis living in Ukraine. “We have sent diplomatic notes to the foreign ministries of Slovakia, Hungary and Poland to make it easier for Nepali citizens to enter their country if they reach the border to escape the war in Ukraine,” Khadka told the republic by telephone. “
The Nepali Embassy in Germany had earlier advised all Nepalis to leave Ukraine and go to Poland, Hungary and Slovakia as much as possible. Ambassador Khadka said that some Nepali students complained that they did not even get money to buy food and leave Ukraine. “We are working closely with the NRNA to help them in every way possible,” he added.
According to NRNA Poland, 11 Nepalis have reached Poland safely by Friday evening and 19 are waiting to enter Poland from the Ukrainian border. Similarly, 20 other Nepalis are now going to Poland from Kiev.
According to NRNA Poland, contacts have been established with six other Nepali nationals stranded in Ukraine and efforts are being made to relocate them to a safer place in Poland.
