A meeting of the ruling coalition held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar has decided to suggest the government to hold local elections by mid-June.
A meeting of the coalition was held in the presence of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of the CPN-Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Chairman of the Unified Socialists Madhav Kumar Nepal and Chairman of the Janata Samajwadi Party Upendra Yadav including few other leaders of the coalition.
Spokesperson of the government and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has informed that the date of local elections will be fixed in consultation with the Election Commission. The coalition has also decided to suggest amending the laws that are in conflict with the constitution so that local elections could be held in time.
After the discussion on the date of the election this morning failed to reach a conclusion, the parties held a second internal discussion in consultation with legal experts.
