The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies has initiated the process to block the land and bank accounts of five industrialists who have not paid their dues to sugarcane farmers.

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies has written to the Ministry of Home, Finance and Land Management to block the land and bank accounts of five sugar mills (Himalaya, Shri Ram, Lumbini, Annapurna and Indira) for not paying the sugarcane due amount.

The ministry has taken this step to make the concerned industries commit to payment after the sugarcane farmers complained that they did not get money for sugarcane even after repeated protests and consensus. Commerce Secretary Bhattarai said that the ministry has been working towards the solution of the problem of sugarcane farmers as they have been displaced due to non-receipt of the fair price of sugarcane and non-payment on time.
