Agreement to extend time limit in rape case

The Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the parliament has agreed to extend the time limit in rape cases. As per the agreement, the term will be one year for adults and two years for minors.

According to the agreement, any minor who has been raped will have to lodge a complaint three years after the completion of 18 years, i.e. till the age of 21, while in the case of an adult, a complaint has to be lodged within two years of the incident.

Provision has been made to file a complaint within two years and three months of being released from custody or abduction if raped while in custody or in abduction. Similarly, persons with disabilities, senior citizens and mentally disabled persons have to lodge a complaint within three years of the incident.
