After the Israeli government accused Bella Hadid of “anti-Semitism” for her pro-Palestinian stance, German sportswear Adidas pulled Hadid from an Adidas ad.
Recently, German sportswear Adidas relaunched the SL-72 in retro-inspired classic looks that were first showcased during the 1972 Munich Olympics, where the Palestinian Black September group killed eleven Israeli athletes and a German police officer.
Regarding the recently relaunched ad for the shoe, the Israeli Foreign Ministry posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Guess who’s the face of their campaign? Bella Hadid, a half-Palestinian model who has a history of spreading anti-Semitism and calling for violence against Israelis and Jews,”.After the post Adidas has decided to change the advertisement made by Bella and remove her from the Ad.
Hadid’s father is Palestinian and she was born in Nazareth. She has been raising her voice for Palestinian rights, calling for an end to the bloodshed in Gaza. She has also criticized the Israeli government after more than 38,000 civilians have died in the ongoing conflict in Palestine. Publicly accusing Israel of “genocide”, Bella, who has been voicing her support for Palestine through social media, has also donated 1 million dollars for the relief of those in the war.
With the move to remove Bella Hadid from the ad, many on social media expressed their anger against Adidas’ move.
Adidas also removed American rapper Kanye West from its ads in 2022 due to comments he made against Jews.
