Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has given permission to banks and financial institutions to open Letter of Credit (LC) account for imported goods being transported at the newly constructed Chobhar Dry Port of Kathmandu.
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has issued revised integrated directives, allowing importers who want to transport imported goods to the soon-to-be-opened dry port to obtain the relevant documents. The central bank has also opened LC accounts for Mechi, Biratnagar, Birgunj, Sirsia dry ports and Bhairahawa customs checkpoints for the Nepal-India border but has allowed traders to enter the new dry ports for import destinations. The new infrastructure is expected to reduce customs hassle for traders.
The infrastructure constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.18 billion will be able to accommodate about 500 containers at a time. The Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Board is currently operating a newly constructed dry port at Chobhar.
