Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the operation of Chobhar port will make Kathmandu a hub of international trade. Along with the containers that came to Kathmandu under the internal transport facility, the way is now open to pass the customs check of international trade through Kathmandu.
Chobhar Port is the first port built in the inner city outside the border area. The port has a capacity of 500 containers and 500 trucks for import and export of goods, customs and security.
After the port comes into operation, containers carrying goods coming from the sea ports of India and China for capital-centric trade will now be able to come directly to Kathmandu and domestic goods will also be exported from the same port.
The dry port of Chobhar has been constructed under the Nepal-India Regional Trade and Transit Project with a loan assistance of Rs 1.54 billion from the World Bank.
