The Election Commission (EC) has submitted a proposal to the government to hold local level elections on April 27.
The tenure of local level officials is coming to an end on May 19. Pursuant to Article 225 of the Constitution, the election must be held within six months of the expiration of the tenure of the officials. However, according to the Local Level Operations Act, the election must be held two months before the end of the term.
As per the preparations of the Election Commission, next April 14 will be suitable for holding all the local level elections on the same day and if it won’t be possible to hold the election on the same day for any reason, it has been mentioned in the proposal that the second round of election can be held on May 5.
