About one week after the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) started selling the surplus electricity consumed in the country at competitive rates in the Indian Energy Exchange Market, 364 MW of electricity has been exported to India from today.

NEA, which has been allowed to export only 364 MW of electricity, had earlier been exporting 23 MW of electricity from Trishuli Hydropower Project, 14.39 MW from Devighat Hydropower Project, 140 MW from Kaligandaki Hydropower Project, 67 MW from Marsyangdi Hydropower Project and 68 MW from Madhyamrsyangdi Hydropower Project. With the addition of 51 MW of electricity generated from Likhu-4 of Green Ventures under the private sector from Friday, Nepal has exported electricity at full capacity as per the agreement.

The excess electricity during the rainy season is being exported to the Indian market on a daily basis through the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur 400 KV interstate transmission line.

In the energy exchange market of India, electricity is being auctioned in 96 blocks every 15 minutes. The Government of India allows to buy and sell in those blocks up to a maximum of Rs.12IC. The price will be decided differently according to the rate of supply and demand in each block.
