Kathmandu – Former Education Minister and Rastriya Swatantra Party leader Sumana Shrestha has demanded the immediate release of social activist Ashika Tamang.
Shrestha met Tamang at Jagati Police Station in Bhaktapur on Thursday.
Expressing that her behavior may be chaotic, her style may be wrong, I agree, but what she did reflects the anger of the common people, Shrestha questioned the government’s authoritarian attitude and ability. The intellectual class may disagree with Ashika’s method, but punishment should be according to the mistake, is it right to torture her like this? She also questioned.
She also accused the Home Minister of silently supporting Tamang’s suffering, saying who is registering these complaints in various districts against a person who has already been released on bail and whether action is being taken as quickly in other cases.
“Isn’t this government trying to threat that”you oppose us! I will show you the truth”? We have seen more serious incidents like not doing anything to the student leaders from governing poltical parties who vandalized schools and colleges, allowing those who beat up professors to go abroad, and culprit participating in the police’s program at night while absconding. What could have happened if instead of Ashikaji, someone close to a party had been brought up?The intention was to suppress only those who do not have access to the power center”, she said.
Tamang, who was arrested on charges of indecent behavior, is currently at the Jagati police station.
