Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhek has said that his serious attention has been drawn to the issues raised regarding the inter-caste marriage of Satyandra Kumar Ram Chamar and Neha Rauniyar of Barhathawa in Sarlahi. In a meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Home Minister Lekhek also said that it is a fabrication to say that atrocities were committed on the instructions of the Home Minister in inter-caste marriage.
He said that he is against caste discrimination and being prejudiced against inter-caste marriage is a devaluing of his ideals. He mentioned that he has been fighting for the guarantee of individual freedom and human rights since his student days. Home Minister Lakhek said that inter-caste marriage is recognized by law and he believed that it is his duty to ensure that the law is followed.
He said, ‘The Ministry of Home Affairs is active in protecting the right against discrimination and the natural human rights of individuals guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal and creating an environment where they can enjoy them.’
He clarified that he had already made his views on the incident clear and had made the report public as instructed by the police. He pledged to ensure full security for Satyendra Kumar and Neha and to investigate and take action if any wrongdoing is found.
