Impeachment motion been filed against Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra

An impeachment motion has been filed against Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra at the Parliament Secretariat this morning.

Nepali Congress Whip Pushpa Bhusal and CPN-Unified Socialist Whip Jeevan Ram Shrestha were the proponents of the impeachment motion which was signed by 98 lawmakers from the three parties, including Law Minister Dilendra Prasad Badu. According to Article 101, Clause 2 of the Constitution, the impeachment motion has been filed against Jabra by the ruling Nepali Congress, ruling coalition partner CPN-Maoist Center and UCPN (Maoist) MPs.

The Nepal Bar Association has been protesting for a long time demanding Jabra’s resignation, while Supreme Court justices have been boycotting long sittings.

After the impeachment is registered in the Parliament Secretariat, Chief Justice Jabra will be automatically suspended.
