North Korea has fired a ballistic missile today. North Korean missile fired into a sea east of the Korean Peninsula, military says
Today’s missile strike into a sea of the Korean peninsula is the ninth missile strike by North Korea. North has tested a missile just days before South Korea’s presidential election.
Today’s test could be a ballistic missile, according to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff and Japan’s Prime Minister’s Office.
The South Korean military says today’s missile strike came from Sunan, an area near Pyongyang’s international airport.
Japan’s Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi has said that North Korea fired a missile at a time when the international community was focusing on Russia’s attack on Ukraine. The missile reached an altitude of 550 km and covered a distance of 300 km, according to Japan.
South Korea has called a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss the North’s missile strike. The U.S. government and military have not commented on the latest missile strike in the north. North Korea’s latest test is the ninth weapons test in two months of this year.
The international community has repeatedly banned North Korea from conducting nuclear tests. However, the North has repeatedly tested missiles in defiance of sanctions.
Talks between former US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on ending nuclear weapons in the North was ended without a conclusion.
