Russia vetoes U.N. Security action on Ukraine

Russia has vetoed a UN Security Council resolution on Ukraine.

Russia, a permanent member, has vetoed a resolution condemning Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Eleven members voted in favor of the resolution. India, China and the UAE abstained.

Ukraine has voted to suspend the Russian invasion and withdraw its troops.

Russia is one of the five permanent members of the Security Council. The permanent members of the Security Council are Russia, along with the United States, China, France and the United Kingdom. They have the right to use veto power.

At the Security Council meeting, the Russian ambassador defended the attack on Ukraine, saying it was aimed at protecting Ukrainian citizens in the Donbass region.

The US ambassador also condemned the attack on Ukraine and said that Russia had misused its veto.
