Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced plans for a second referendum on Scottish independence in October next year.
Sturgeon also warned of legal action to ensure voting if the British government tried to stop it.

Sturgeon said the Scottish government, led by the pro-independent Scottish National Party, would outline plans for a second referendum in October 19 2023 and write a letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Addressing parliamentarians in the Scottish Parliament, she said she would not accept Scottish democracy as a prisoner of Prime Minister Boris Johnson or any British prime minister and would never allow that to happen.

About 5.5 million Scottish voters rejected independence in a 2014 referendum. But Scotland’s semi-autonomous government has called for a second referendum saying that, British government supported the decision to leave the EU, despite the opposition from a majority of Scots.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Johnson and his ruling Conservative party have opposed a second referendum, saying the 2014 referendum had concluded everything.
