The discussion of the top leaders of the ruling coalition for seat distribution ended without a conclusion.

The meeting of the top leaders of the coalition and the task force leaders, held at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar, on the seat distributions failed to reach an agreement.

The Nepali Congress, CPN Maoist Center, CPN Unified Socialist Party, Janata Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Janamorcha, which are in the alliance, agreed to coordinate the upcoming elections but no agreement has been reached yet. Despite dozens of discussions, which party will get how many seats have not been decided.

The Congress has claimed 100 seats in the alliance, while the Maoist Center has claimed 60, the Unified Socialists have 40, the Jaspa has claimed 32 and the Janamorcha has claimed 2 seats. The leaders say that the problem is that all the parties are not ready to back down from their claims. The leaders say that even though they could not reach an agreement on the distribution of seats for months, there is no possibility of breaking the alliance.

As the date of submission of the list of candidates for proportional representation is approaching, the pressure has increased on the parties to finalize the seat distribution. The meeting will be held again at 8 o’clock tomorrow.
