Bangladesh reiterates: Bringing Sheikh Hasina back from India is government’s priority

Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to Bangladesh’s interim government chief Mohammad Yunus, has said that bringing Sheikh Hasina back from India is the government’s priority.

According to BBC Bangla, Shafiqul Alam said, “The government is working to bring Sheikh Hasina back as soon as possible in accordance with Bangladeshi law.”

Bangladesh has demanded that India extradite Sheikh Hasina.

Bangladesh’s foreign ministry adviser Mohammad Tohed Hossain said that India had recently been informed that Sheikh Hasina should be sent back to face the judicial process.

She fled Bangladesh on August 5 after student protests escalated. She has been living in India since then.

A spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed this, saying, “We have received an extradition request from the Bangladesh High Commission.”
