Kathmandu- Two people, including the chairman of Chandragiri Municipality Ward No. 2, have been found guilty in a corruption case.
The special court sentenced ward chairman Bhai Krishna Tamang and Dhurba Bahadur Kadayat, who arranged the bribe.The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had accused him of accepting a bribe from Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City Ward No. 22 to move an industry to Chandragiri. A complaint was filed against Urmila Pandey and her partner that Ward Chairman Tamang had demanded a bribe of Rs 400,000 to recommend the transfer of the business.
Kadayat was arrested after he had already taken Rs 200,000 in cash from the service recipient and had drawn a check for the remaining Rs 200,000 in his own name. During the investigation, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) confirmed that Ward Chairman Tamang had demanded the amount.
The decision was made by a bench of Special Committee Chairman Tek Narayan Kunwar and members Ram Bahadur Thapa and Ritendra Thapa.
According to the special report, Tamang has been sentenced to six months in prison and a fine of Rs 400,000. The special report also states that the person who arranged the bribe was also sentenced to the same amount of imprisonment and fine.
