Kathmandu: Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel has presented the action plan related to health insurance reform to the Prime Minister.
The insurance reform action plan prepared based on the report of the Health Insurance Reform Suggestions Task Force will now be decided by the Council of Ministers and the process of amending the Health Insurance Act will be taken forward through the winter session of the Federal Parliament, according to Minister Poudel’s secretariat.
The Health Minister Poudel’s secretariat has stated that the eight main issues to be addressed for insurance reform has been submitted to the Prime Minister .
The action plan mentions how all the previous suggestions given by the Dr. Shambhu Acharya Task Force can be implemented, and it includes the issue of making arrangements so that all insured persons will receive treatment services worth Rs. 500,000 within the next 6 years, but for now, only kidney patients among the insured will receive services worth Rs. 500,000.
Similarly, the health insurance reform action plan includes issues such as mandatory coverage of all government employees, higher tax payers paying higher premiums, direct allocation of money from taxes on tobacco, sweets and confectionery products to insurance, and more services in treatment and medicine than laboratory tests.
