Zelensky Rejects Land Concessions Ahead of Trump–Putin Alaska Summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reaffirmed that Ukraine will not cede any territory to Russia, just days before a planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on 15 August to discuss the war’s future.

The statement came after Trump suggested that “some swapping of territories” could help end the conflict, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. While offering no specific details, Trump said such a deal could benefit both sides given the years of fighting and heavy casualties.

Zelensky, posting on Telegram, declared that “Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier” and stressed that Ukraine must be part of any peace agreement.

He warned that any deal made without Ukraine’s involvement would be “a solution against peace.”

Daughter of Russian President Putin’s aide dies in a car bomb blast

The daughter of a close aide of Russian President Vladimir Putin has died in a suspected car bombing.

According to Russia’s Investigative Committee, Darya Dugin, the 29-year-old daughter of Alexander Dugin, died in the explosion.

It is believed that the explosion was intended to kill Alexander Dugin, a Russian philosopher known as “Putin’s brain”.

Alexander Dugin and his daughter went to attend a festival near Moscow and even though they were scheduled to return from the festival in the same car, they decided to travel separately at the last minute. It is said that the car belongs to her father Alexander Dugin.

According to the investigation committee, experts are currently inspecting the scene and the vehicle has been removed from the scene for further examination. The investigation committee said it has obtained the recording from the car’s dash cam and is continuing its investigation.

Dugin is known for his staunch anti-Western and ‘neo-Eurasian’ views. Westerners describe Dugin as a prominent ultra-nationalist figure close to the Russian president. Western media have portrayed him as a major force behind key aspects of President Vladimir Putin’s foreign policy. However, despite his reputation in the West, in Russia he has never received official support from the Kremlin and is largely considered a marginal figure.

Russia must return to pre-invasion position for agreement – Zelensky

Ukraine’s president has said any peace deal with Russia will depend on whether the Russian military returns to its pre-invasion position or not.

Speaking to a London think tank, Volodymyr Zelensky said that it is the minimum condition that he and his country could accept. He did not mention the annexation of Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014, although he said he is the leader of the whole of Ukraine, not of mini-Ukraine.

In an interview with the London House of Think Tank, Zelensky said that the war between Russia and Ukraine could be stopped only if Russia agrees to come to the position before February 23. which clearly means that Russia must be ready to return the territory it occupied after Russia invaded Ukraine.
