Prime Minister Oli Departs for China

Kathmandu — At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has left for China on a five-day official visit.

Oli will be in China until Wednesday, the 18th of Bhadra, to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, which is scheduled to be held on the 15th and 16th of Bhadra in Tianjin, northern China.

The Prime Minister’s delegation includes his wife Radhika Shakya, Education Minister Raghujii Pant, Tourism Minister Badri Prasad Pandey, Nepali Congress Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, Prime Minister’s economic advisor Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, lawmaker Chhabilal Bishwakarma, along with other senior officials.

During his visit, Oli will hold a separate meeting with Chinese President Xi and is also scheduled to address the SCO Plus Summit in Tianjin on the 17th of Bhadra. He will also meet with leaders of various countries during the program.

Additionally, Prime Minister Oli is expected to attend the Beijing Victory Parade. This is his second visit to China since assuming office as Prime Minister.

Kathmandu- Addressing a program organized in Kathmandu on the occasion of the inauguration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China and the Chinese New Year celebrations, Speaker Devraj Ghimire has said that Nepal wants to benefit from China’s unique development and prosperity.

Praising the cooperation provided by China so far, he expressed that Nepal will receive support for smooth upgrading and its sustainability in the context of upgrading from the list of least developed countries by 2026.

He expressed confidence that a large number of Chinese tourists will visit Nepal in the context of declaring 2025 as the Visit Nepal Year in China, which will provide significant support in promoting tourism, and called for utilizing the immense opportunities for economic, social and cultural development between Nepal and China and moving forward hand in hand for a prosperous and golden future.

Chinese Deputy Minister Sun Haiyan in Kathmandu

Sun Heyan, Deputy Minister of the International Department of the Chinese Communist Party, has arrived in Kathmandu.

The delegation led by Sun Haiyan arrived in Nepal via neighboring Bangladesh for a four-day visit to Nepal.The team reached Bangladesh last Tuesday after visiting the Maldives. During her visit to Bangladesh, Haiyan met with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday.This is the first high-level visit by the Chinese side after the formation of a new government in Bangladesh.

Before that, she had a meeting with the President of the Maldives last Monday, Mohammed Maizu. Some bilateral agreements have also been made in that regard.After visiting Dhaka, the team led by Deputy Minister Haiyan landed in Nepal on Friday afternoon.

During their visit to Nepal, the Chinese team is scheduled to meet with the top leaders of various parties including President Ram Chandra Paudel, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.Deputy Minister Sun is also scheduled to hold a group discussion with leaders of various parties at Hotel Solti this Sunday.

Nine point agreement signed between Nepal & China

Nepal and China signed nine agreements including the Kerung-Kathmandu railway extension.

During the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Nepal, a nine-point agreement is signed between Nepal and China. A nine-point agreement was reached between Nepal and China at the Foreign Ministry in Singha Durbar today in the presence of Nepal’s foreign minister Khadka and Chinese Foreign Minister Yi.

Discussions were also held at the Foreign Minister level and at the delegation-level before the agreement was signed.

The MoU covers financial and technical assistance, feasibility study of the transmission line, provision of services by a team of Chinese health workers in Nepal, transfer and maintenance of vaccines, and upgrade of Araniko highway and export of grass.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will also hold talks with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. The foreign minister, who arrived in Nepal on Friday, will return home on Sunday.
