Show cause order issued on AIG promotion decision

The Supreme Court has refused to grant an interim order in a writ petition filed against the government’s decision to promote three persons to the post of Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG).

A single bench of Justice Kumar Chudal, after a preliminary hearing on the writ petition on Tuesday, has asked the government the reasons. This decision of the Supreme Court is not final. For the time being, the writ petitioner has refused to issue an interim order not to implement the government’s decision.

The apex court has summoned both the parties for discussion on the interim order seeking written reasons within 15 days of the promotion of the junior. After hearing both sides, the Supreme Court will decide whether to issue an interim order or not.

A writ petition was filed in the Supreme Court last Thursday, the same day the government decided of promotion.

The cabinet meeting had decided to promote three Deputy Inspector Generals of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh, Vasant Kumar Pant and Rabindra Bahadur Dhanuk to the post of Additional Inspector General. A writ petition was filed in the apex court seeking an interim order saying that the decision of the government to promote the junior instead of the senior was wrong.

DIG Ishwar Babu Karki and Prakash Jung Karki have filed separate writ petitions in the Supreme Court against the decision. On the same day, the promotion recommendation committee under the coordination of Home Ministry Secretary Teknarayan Pandey had recommended Vasant Pant, Dhiraj Pratap Singh and Rabindra Dhanuk for promotion.

Writ petition against the decision to promote three (DIGs) kept out of the hearing list

A writ petition filed in the Supreme Court against the decision to promote three Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of Nepal Police to the post of Additional Inspector General (AIG) has been kept out of the hearing list .

Though a hearing has been scheduled for today in the single sitting of Judge Kumar Regmi, it has been placed out of the hearing list.

According to Supreme Court Spokesperson Vimal Poudel, Judge Regmi was not allowed to look into the matter, but he was present at the hearing. Therefore, no hearing could be held even today.

DIG Ishwar Babu Karki, Ghanshyam Aryal and Prakash Jung Karki had filed a writ petition against the promotion of AIG.

The cabinet meeting had decided to promote DIG Dhiraj Pratap Singh, Vasant Pant and Rabindra Bahadur Dhanuk to AIG.
