CAN announced ICC Men’s T20 World Cup team for Asia Qualifier in Oman

Kathmandu- The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced the team for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier to be held in Oman.

A 15-member team led by captain Rohit Kumar Paudel was revealed on Friday, CAN spokesperson Chhumbi Lama confirmed.

The squad includes vice-captain Dipendra Airee, Kushal Bhurtel, Lokesh Bam, Kushal Malla, Aasif Sheikh, Mohammad Aadil Alam, Karan KC, Nandan Yadav, Sandeep Lamichhane, Sandeep Jora, Arif Sheikh, Lalit Rajbanshi, Gulshan Jha, and Sompal Kami.

The tournament will take place from October 8 to 17 at the Al Amerat Cricket Academy grounds in Oman. Nepal has been placed in Group 2 alongside Kuwait and Japan. A total of nine teams from Asia and the East Asia–Pacific regions, divided into three groups, will compete in the qualifiers.

Nepal sets new record by defeating World Champion West Indies

Kathmandu – Nepal defeated the West Indies in back-to-back matches and clinched the Unity Cup T20I series being held in the UAE.

Nepal secured a commanding 90 run victory in the second match. Winning the toss and batting first, Nepal posted 173 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Chasing a target of 174 runs, the West Indies were bowled out for just 83 runs in 17.1 overs.

Earlier, Nepal had already made history by beating the West Indies in the first match. With the second win, Nepal not only secured the series but also achieved remarkable success by winning a bilateral series against a Test-playing nation for the first time.

Until now, Nepal had only played bilateral series against associate nations. This was Nepal’s first bilateral series against a Test-playing team, and Nepal emerged victorious.

So far, Nepal has played bilateral series against Hong Kong, Malaysia, UAE, USA, the Netherlands, and Kenya, winning four of them.

In 2014, Nepal lost a series against Hong Kong in Sri Lanka. In 2015, Nepal toured the Netherlands, winning one match but losing two.

In 2019, Nepal played in the UAE, winning two matches and losing one. In the same year, Nepal won both matches of a series in Malaysia.

In 2022, Nepal toured Kenya, winning three matches and losing two. In 2024, Nepal played a one-off match against Hong Kong but lost.

Nepal defeats West Indies to claim historic first T20I Victory

Kathmandu – Nepal registered a historic win against the West Indies in their first-ever T20 International match, securing a 19-run victory.

Chasing Nepal’s target of 149, the West Indies managed only 129 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Navin Vidaisy top-scored for the visitors with 22 runs, while Ameer Jango and Keacy Carty contributed 19 runs each.

For Nepal, Kushal Bhurtel was the standout bowler, taking 2 wickets for just 17 runs in 4 overs. Rohit Paudel, Karan KC, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Nandan Yadav claimed one wicket each.

Earlier, Nepal, put in to bat after losing the toss, posted 148 for 8 in 20 overs. Captain Rohit Paudel led from the front with 38 runs off 35 balls, hitting 3 fours and a six. Kushal Malla added a quick 30 off 21 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes, while Gulsan Jha scored 22 and Airee made 17. Paudel and Malla shared a crucial 58-run stand for the third wicket after Nepal had slipped to 12 for 2.

Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies, finishing with 4 wickets for 20 runs in 4 overs. Debutant Navin Vidaisy impressed with 3 wickets for 29 runs, while captain Akeal Hosein took one wicket.

This win is especially significant for Nepal as they had never before defeated a Full Member nation in T20Is, despite playing against sides like India, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh in major tournaments. Today’s triumph over the West Indies marked a historic breakthrough for Nepali cricket.

26 players signed in first round of auction of NPL 2nd edition

Kathmandu — 26 players have been signed through the first round of auction of the second edition of Nepal Premier League (NPL). The 8 teams participating in the auction held on Saturday have selected their preferred players.

Dev Khanal, Arjun Saud, Adil Alam and Pawan Saraf are among the players who will receive the highest prices. They will receive Rs 1.5 million each. Dev and Arjun will play for Chitwan Rhinos, Adil for Kathmandu Gorkhas and Pawan for Karnali Yaks.

Similarly, Dilip Nath and Sher Malla (Lumbini Lions), Hemant Dhami (Sudurpaschim Royals), Surya Tamang (Biratnagar Kings), Santosh Yadav (Kathmandu Gorkhas) and Yubaraj Khatri (Karnali Yaks) have been signed for Rs 1 million each.

Mayan Yadav has been signed by Janakpur Bolts for Rs 750,000 and Akash Tripathi by Kathmandu Gorkhas for Rs 700,000. Narayan Joshi and Sahil Patel (Biratnagar Kings), Arjun Kumal (Pokhara Avengers), Vishal Patel (Lumbini Lions) and Aditya Mahat (Janakpur Bolts) have been signed for Rs 500,000 each. Kathmandu Gorkhas has brought in Uttam Thapa Magar for Rs 300,000.

Similarly, Tek Bahadur Rawat and Dipendra Thapa (Sudur Paschim Royals), Abhishek Tiwari and Krishna Poudel (Pokhara Avengers), Sachin Bhatt (Janakpur Bolts), Tul Bahadur Thapa (Kathmandu Gorkhas) and Imran Sheikh and Deepak Dumre (Karnali Yaks) have been signed for Rs 200,000 each.

Kathmandu Gorkhas has signed 5 players as per its quota, while other teams will be able to sign the remaining players at the lowest price in the second phase. This time, 150 players selected out of 458 registered players participated in the mini auction.

Nepal advances to finals after defeating Malaysia by 9 wickets

The Nepali youth cricket team has won today’s match against home team Malaysia.

Nepal has reached the final for the fourth time after defeating Malaysia by 9 wickets in the first semi-final of the ACC Men’s U-16 East Zone Cup held on Thursday.

Nepal achieved the target of 91 runs set by Malaysia for the loss of 1 wicket in 11.4 overs. Nepal will now play the winner of the second semi-final for the title. Hong Kong and Singapore are currently facing each other in the second semi-final.

Singapore, chasing the target of 169 runs set by Hong Kong, is batting in reply.

Nepal suffers third consecutive defeat in Women’s T20I series

Kathmandu- Nepal has suffered its third consecutive defeat in the ongoing women’s T20I series at the Tribhuvan University Kirtipur Cricket Ground.

Nepal, who lost in the first match against the Netherlands, has also lost in today’s second match.

Nepal, who played against the Netherlands after being given a target of 141 runs, managed to score only 125 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.

Nepal has lost three consecutive matches in the tri-nation series including Thailand and the Netherlands along with today’s match.

Nepal to play third match of T20 series against Netherlands today

Kathmandu: Nepal is playing its third match against Netherlands in the triangular women’s T20 international series. The match will be held at Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground at 12:15 pm today.

Nepal has already suffered its second consecutive defeat. On Saturday, Nepal lost to Thailand by 4 wickets. In the previous match, Nepal lost to Netherlands by 20 runs.

The series features Nepal, Thailand and Netherlands.

Nepali team on the ground chasing down a target of 158 runs against Netherlands

Kathmandu- Nepali team has taken a ground to chase down a target of 158 runs against the Netherlands in the first match of the ongoing women’s T20 International series involving Thailand, Nepal and the Netherlands at the Tribhuvan University Ground, Kirtipur.

Batting first after losing the toss, the Netherlands managed to score 157 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. For the Netherlands, Robin Rizki scored 59 runs in 48 balls with 8 fours, Sterie Kallis scored 29 runs in 35 balls with 4 fours, Iris Zwilling scored 31 and Heather Scissors scored 23 runs. For Nepal, Kavita Kunwar, Pooja Mahato, Ishwori Bista and Sita Rana Magar took 1 wicket each in the match.

All the teams will play 3-3 matches with each team in the series. Nepal will play the second match against Thailand on Saturday. They will play against the Netherlands on Magh 20, Thailand on Magh 22, Netherlands on Magh 23 and Thailand on Magh 25.

Since there will be no finals in the match, the team that wins the most matches and gets the highest points by the end of all match will be the winner of the series.

APF becomes women’s national cricket champion for the seventh time

25 Jan, Kathmandu – Departmental team APF has won the title by defeating Sudurpaschim in the final of the Prime Minister’s Cup women’s national cricket on Saturday. With this, APF has been able to win the women’s PM Cup for the seventh time.

APF defeated Sudurpaschim by 9 wickets in the final. Batting first after winning the toss, Sudurpaschim was all out for 67 runs in 18.1 overs. APF managed to achieve the target of 68 runs set by Sudurpaschim in the 13th over with the loss of 1 wicket.

For APF, Mamta Chaudhary and Indu Verma remained unbeaten and scored 43 and 18 runs respectively, while Kavita Joshi took 3 wickets for 18 runs in 4 overs. Sabnam Rai took 2 wickets for 8 runs in 3 overs. Indu Verma took 2 wickets for 14 runs in 4 overs. Karuna Bhandari took 1 wicket. .

Previously, APF won the title consecutively from 2016 to 2019 and then in 2021 and 2023/24.

Nepal and Pakistan playing in ICC U-19 World Cup

Kathmandu – The Nepali U-19 cricket team is playing against Pakistan today in the ICC U-19 World Cup. The match to be played at the Buffalo Park Cricket Ground against pakistan in South Africa will start at 1:45 PM Nepali time .

In the first match earlier, Nepal was defeated by New Zealand by 64 runs and today’s second match will be against Pakistan. Great victory of Nepal in the match against Bahrain

In the second match under the ACC U-19 Premier Cup, Nepal defeated Bahrain by 7 wickets.

Nepal won by seven wickets against Bahrain, who set a modest target of 78 runs in the tournament in Malaysia. Nepal won by losing three wickets in 11.3 overs.

Nepal has entered the 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup Qualifiers.

After winning against UAE in the final match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League-2, Nepal has entered the 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifiers. The Global Qualifier for the ODI World Cup, which will be contested by 10 teams including Nepal, will be held in June-July in Zimbabwe.

According to the Duckworth-Lewis rule, Nepal managed to win by 9 runs in yesterday’s match at the TU Cricket Ground. Nepal got direct entry into the global selection as it is in the top three positions of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2.

Nepal won the one-day cricket series against Kenya

Nepal has won the one-day cricket series against Kenya after winning three matches in a row.

In the last match held in Nairobi today, Nepal defeated Kenya by 6 wickets.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Kenya managed to add 255 runs losing 9 wickets in the allotted overs of the game.

The Nepali team, which entered the field with a target of 256 runs, scored 258 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 47.1 overs.

Controversial Indian cricketer appointed as a Coach of Nepal’s National Cricket Team

Former Controversial Indian Cricketer Manoj Prabhakar has been appointed as the head coach of Nepal’s National Cricket Team.59 years old Prabhakar was appointed by (CAN) the cricket association of Nepal on Monday.

Manoj Prabhakar was found guilty of match-fixing and was charged by the BCCI and subsequently banned from playing cricket for the Indian National team.
Prabhakar was also sacked as Delhi’s coach two days before the start of the 2011-12 Ranji Trophy season.
He was also a bowling coach of the Afghanistan cricket team and head coach of the Rajasthan Cricket team.

Pubudu Dashanayak resigns from the coach of Nepali National Cricket Team

Pubudu Dashanayak, head coach of the Nepali national cricket team, has resigned from his post.

While saying that Pubud has resigned from the coach due to personal reasons, cricket fans have been demanding the resignation of the coach and captain Sandeep Lamichhane due to the declining performance of the national team.
Pubud sent his resignation to CAN via email about a week ago. Pubudu, who signed a two-year contract with CAN last November for a second term, submitted his resignation within 8 months.

Pubudu was the coach of the Nepali team for the first time from 2011 to 2015.

Nepal’s first win in the triangular series under the ICC Men’s World Cup League-2

Nepal has defeated Scotland by 5 wickets in the triangular series of ICC Men’s World Cup League Two.

Batting first after losing the toss, Scotland managed to add 144 runs in 42.5 overs in the stipulated 50 overs game.

The Nepali team, which entered the field with a target of 145 runs, lost 5 wickets in 25.1 overs and won the match. In the first match, Nepal lost to Namibia by 40 runs and registered its first victory of the series by defeating Scotland.

Nepal dropped out of ICC U-19 Women’s World Cup qualifiers

Nepal has defeated Malaysia by 25 runs in the final match of ICC U-19 Women’s World Cup Asia Qualifiers.

Batting first after winning the toss at the UKM YSD Cricket Oval in Bangi, Malaysia, Nepal managed to add 86 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Chasing the target of 87 runs, Malaysia lost 4 wickets in 20 overs and managed to add only 61 runs.

Nepal has won three out of five matches of the tournament and secured the third position with 7 points.
Out of the six nations competing in the ICC U-19 Women’s World Cup Asia qualifiers, only the winning nation will participate in next year’s U-19 Women’s World Cup in South Africa.

CAN increased national player’s remuneration


Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has increased the salaries of national cricketers and staff.

The CAN meeting held on Tuesday has informed that the salary of the players has been increased. According to CAN, the monthly salary of all male players in Central Contract has been increased by Rs.10000. So on,six thousand for A & B grade women’s team players and five thousand for C grade women’s team players has been increased.

Similarly, the monthly salary of field staff has been increased by Rs 3,000, field office assistant by Rs 5,000 and pitch curator of TRI ground by Rs 6,000.

According to the increased remuneration, A grade players will get Rs 60,000 and B and C grade players will get Rs 50,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively. Similarly, A grade female players will get a monthly salary of Rs 21,000, while B and C grade players will get Rs 18,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.

Nepal lost to Zimbabwe A by 3 wickets

Nepal lost by 3 wickets in the first ODI against Zimbabwe A at the TU Cricket Ground.

After losing the toss, Nepali team went on batting first. Nepalese team lost all the wickets in 3 overs and managed to add 136 runs.
Zimbabwe A, who came on the field with a target of 137 runs, lost 7 wickets in 26 overs and won the match.

CAN announced a 23-member squad for the ODI and T20 series against Zimbabwe

Cricket Association of Nepal(CAN) has announced a 23-member squad for the ODI and T20 series against Zimbabwe today. Sunil Dhamala has returned to the team after a long absence while Binod Bhandari has also returned to the team.

U-19 all-rounder Basir Ahmed has made it to the senior team for the first time. Gyanendra Malla and Sharad Bheswakar are not in the team.

There will be three ODIs and three T20I matches between Nepal and Zimbabwe A team.

The one-day series will start from 30 April. The first game will be played on the 30th of April, the second game on the 2nd of May and the third game on the 4th of May.

Similarly, the first match of the T20 series will be played on May 6, the second match on May 7 and the third match on May 9. Zimbabwe has already announced the squad for the tour of Nepal on Thursday. The Zimbabwe A team will arrive in Nepal on April 28.

T20 final: Nepal playing against Papua New Guinea

Nepal is playing against Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the final today for the title of the triangular T20 series. Nepal will bat first after losing the toss.

PNG won the toss and elected to field at the Kirtipur-based ground.
A change has been made in the Nepali team. Sompal Kami is playing in place of Kamal Singh Airy who was injured in the last match of the league.
