Gen Z activists launch online campaign demanding arrest of former PM Oli and Ex-Home Minister Lekhak

Kathmandu – A widespread social media campaign has begun demanding the arrest of former PM and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, both accused by Gen Z movement supporters of being responsible for the violent crackdown on protesters.

The campaign, launched by Gen Z activists, is circulating under hashtags such as #ARRESTKPOLI, #ARRESTRAMESHLEKHAK, and #ARRESTMURDERERS across various social media platforms.

A viral poster features the photos of Oli and Lekhak labeled as “murderers,” with a message reading: “Arrest the killers, or we will be forced to take action.”

This is the image shared on Social media platforms.

Poster has been shared online, urging authorities to arrest the two leaders and calling on the public to join the social media pressure movement.

Activists accuse Oli and Lekhak of being directly involved in the suppression of the Gen Z protests. Earlier, both leaders had already been restricted from leaving the capital as investigations continued.

Call for legal actions against former PM Oli and Ex-Home Minister Lekhak

Kathmandu – The Human Rights and Peace Society has demanded legal action against former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Society expressed concern over the recent political developments and the loss of lives and property during the Gen-Z protests, stressing that peace is not possible without good governance.

“The country has suffered great damage due to corruption and misgovernance. Former Prime Minister Oli and former Home Minister Lekhak must be held legally accountable,” the statement said. It also called for the identification and punishment of those involved in arson and vandalism of public property, historical monuments, press institutions, and citizens’ assets during the protests.

The Society urged that the police and administration be freed from political influence and made autonomous. It further stressed that individuals appointed to constitutional and judicial bodies based on political power-sharing should step aside.

Additionally, the Society appealed to the interim government to act as a guardian of all citizens, safeguard the constitution and democratic achievements, and ensure a free, fair, and fearless election as soon as possible, followed by a smooth transfer of power to an elected government.

Government Orders Probe and Action Over Kailali Prison Incident

Kathmandu – The Parliamentary Committee on Law, Justice, and Human Rights has directed the government to conduct an impartial investigation into the recent incident at Kailali Prison and take legal action against those responsible.

In a meeting held at Singha Durbar on Wednesday, the committee instructed the government to investigate the incident of Kailali Prison, punish the guilty in accordance with the law, and arrange compensation for the victims as per legal provisions.

The committee also directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to make the prison administration more accountable and prevent such clashes and assaults from recurring in other prisons across the country. It further recommended implementing strategies to engage inmates in labor and productive activities effectively.

Additionally, the committee instructed authorities to house prisoners in different blocks or facilities based on the nature of their crimes, the number of inmates, and their behavior. It also called on the government to expand physical infrastructure inside prisons and establish at least one model prison in each province.

During the meeting, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak informed that a probe committee had already been formed to investigate the Kailali Prison incident and that the facts would be revealed once the report completed. He stated that no firearms were used in the incident; instead, bricks and stones available on the premises had been used.

Minister Lekhak acknowledged the poor state of prison infrastructure nationwide and stressed the need for improvement. He said the government is committed to developing prisons while ensuring the protection of inmates’ human rights and creating an environment for their reintegration into society after release.

RSP demands high-level investigation into visit visa case

Kathmandu — Rastriya Swatantra Party MP Manish Jha has made it clear that he will not back down from his demand for an investigation into those involved in organized crime of visit visa and human trafficking.

Talking to reporters at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor on Tuesday, he said that he understood the importance of the bills the government is introducing and is ready to provide political support to the bills, but the government should also listen to their demands. He has been adamant that a high-level investigation commission, judicial committee or parliamentary special investigation committee should be formed to investigate those involved in the visit visa case.

After the name of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak was also linked to the visit visa case, the Rastriya Swatantra Party has been continuously obstructing the parliament demanding the resignation of the Home Minister .

Government will provide security to Satyandra and Neha who had inter-caste marriage : Home Minister

Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhek has said that his serious attention has been drawn to the issues raised regarding the inter-caste marriage of Satyandra Kumar Ram Chamar and Neha Rauniyar of Barhathawa in Sarlahi. In a meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Home Minister Lekhek also said that it is a fabrication to say that atrocities were committed on the instructions of the Home Minister in inter-caste marriage.

He said that he is against caste discrimination and being prejudiced against inter-caste marriage is a devaluing of his ideals. He mentioned that he has been fighting for the guarantee of individual freedom and human rights since his student days. Home Minister Lakhek said that inter-caste marriage is recognized by law and he believed that it is his duty to ensure that the law is followed.

He said, ‘The Ministry of Home Affairs is active in protecting the right against discrimination and the natural human rights of individuals guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal and creating an environment where they can enjoy them.’

He clarified that he had already made his views on the incident clear and had made the report public as instructed by the police. He pledged to ensure full security for Satyendra Kumar and Neha and to investigate and take action if any wrongdoing is found.
